Nielsen is the official contractor for radio audience surveys in all markets throughout Australia, providing detailed listening data for radio stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, eight times per year. Other regularly surveyed markets include Newcastle, Gold Coast / Tweed and Canberra. Less regular surveys are also conducted in numerous regional markets.
Commercial Radio Australia Limited (www.commercialradio.com.au), administers the radio ratings contract on behalf of all commercial radio stations and the ABC, and assists in the continued improvement of the research program and the audit of the survey methodology. Considered to be the most advanced of its kind anywhere in the world, Nielsen's diary system is based on personally-placed and collected diaries, which record seven day, quarter hour listening by pre-listed stations.
